CHAPTER ONE

THE POWER OF A DECISION

The pavement slapped with hurried feet as dress shoes, sandals, high heels, and sneakers pounded the stained cement. Furious and hasty legs scissored up and down the pathways of Nicollet while city sounds symphonically filled the hot air. Unbeknownst to the busy individuals towering above, there existed a peculiar and fascinating race of beings just below their knees. In fact, one of them was dodging his way towards the Minneapolis Convention Center at this very moment.   (https://www.minneapolis.org/neighborhoods/downtown/nicollet/)  (https://www.minneapolis.org/minneapolis-convention-center/)

No taller than 10 inches and 6 centimeters, this special “Tiny Ynit” was on a very important mission. Sam Más had a unique gift, which, if he could learn to utilize it, would be a great asset to his people. The sidewalk was a bit too crowded as he decided to stick close to the wall. Although a tiny ynit was virtually invisible to their much larger counterparts, they still needed to be careful whilst moving among them.

Sam looked up at one of the humans who was wearing a fancy green suit and yelling into his cell phone. Something didn’t feel quite right as the large being was distracted while making his way. He nearly ran into several people who had to quickly step out of his path. The 26-year-old tiny ynit could not shake the uneasy sensations coursing through his body. The convention center was only a few blocks ahead of him when the man in the suit turned right and headed down a different street.

Biting the inside of his cheek and pondering his next decision, Sam bolted through several sets of legs. He was concerned for the human on the phone as it became obvious he was distressed. His long arm was waving dramatically in the air while he walked full-steam-ahead. Although a tiny ynit was small, their unique abilities allowed them to move with impressive speed and agility. The other humans around this particular man were growing agitated by his rudeness and social etiquette. It was as if he was oblivious to others nearby and the dirty looks from others verified that.

The man in the suit was nearing an intersection just as the conversation was at its maximum intensity. All of a sudden, Sam’s keen senses kicked in and he noticed a metro transit bus rumbling down the road. The man was screaming into his phone and totally unaware of his immediate surroundings. He was only a few steps away from the curb and showed no signs of slowing his pace. With his tiny heart racing, Sam saw the gargantuan vehicle about to enter the intersection. Hugging the sidewalk while cruising at nearly 30 miles-per-hour, it was obvious that disaster was about to strike. (https://www.metrotransit.org/home)
With only seconds to spare, Sam took a sprinters stance and then bolted towards the massive bus. Similar to the human's version of an adrenaline rush, a tiny ynit is able to perform incredible tasks in moments of distress. The next three steps would determine the man's fate...unless Sam could intervene in time. In near lightning fashion, the tiny ynit leaped with ferocity as he swung himself around a street sign pole. Allowing momentum to carry him, he let go and sailed towards the rumbling machine. With perfectly timed steps he ran sideways along the speeding metal frame. Pedestrians looked on in horror as they were about to witness a horrific accident. They felt helpless as the crushing bus was merely inches away from the impending impact.

The man was even with the bus and stepping down the curb when Sam took his last step and pushed off with all his might. Lowering his shoulder and bracing for the collision he bowled into the man’s shoulder. Knocking him back and out of the way of the bus, everyone screamed out of dread. They all thought he had been hit by the multi-ton passenger transport. Falling onto his butt and rolling backward...he lost the grip on his phone as it sailed through the air. The bus slammed on its brakes while people gathered around the stunned and lifeless body. Sam quickly gathered himself and rushed between the multiplying sets of legs. They all held their breath until the man in the suit began to move his arms and legs. Embarrassed...yet alive, he awkwardly stumbled to his feet. The driver ran to render aid while calling 911; however, besides a few clothing scuffs and out-of-place hairs, the man was perfectly fine. Sam grabbed his heart then tapped his chest as everyone took a sigh of relief.

He was grateful that one of their much larger counterparts was safe and mostly unharmed. Despite a few potential bumps and bruises and damaged ego, the man was completely intact and able to function. One thing humans did not know, is that they are actually a ynit. Although eternally interconnected, there is a distinct difference between a ynit and a tiny ynit. Ynit’s are the physical stewards of the earth (https://www.nasa.gov/), which means, they are the protectors of this planet in the literal sense. Their purpose is to defend it from harm and destruction in all forms. Try to think of our home as it spins about in outer space...as a massive sphere of energy. A ynit or human is kind of like a cold fusion producer of said energy.

Ynit’s and tiny ynit’s have a symbiotic relationship, wherein the words “magnificent” and “special” only begin to scratch the surface. You see, every decision, ever made creates a burst of energy. If you just look at one ynit and one day of that ynit’s life, it can be hard to fathom how many decisions they make within that 24 hour period. Now...take billions upon billions of ynit’s over the course of millions and millions of hours...then you will get an idea of how incalculable the decision to energy burst ratio is!

Very shortly after a ynit is born...there is a moment so pure and innocent, it essentially could be called a miracle.  In an act of undefiled virtue...the first decision of a ynit creates this noble energy burst. More often than not, it is when a baby ynit cries after birth, a tiny ynit is born as well. Sometimes it can also be a smile or a finger-grab....ultimately and regardless of the instinctual and reactionary decision to the beginning of life, a tiny ynit is manifested into existence.

With mirror accuracy, this tiny ynit is an uncorrupted energy reflection of its newborn creator. Just as ynit’s care after their young, two adult tiny ynit’s, adopt the new creation...nurturing it as they become an unbreakable family unit. Growing in step with the ynit, a tiny ynit’s life is directly affected by the human. A tiny ynit feeds and grows off the energy of every single decision their physical counterpart makes. The first eight years of this relationship are the most important and vital. At times, a ynit can even see their tiny ynit...this is what some grown-ups would call an “imaginary friend”.

Until the “age of accountability”...a tiny ynit develops special abilities as the energy burst from the ynit make them stronger and faster. From the moment of birth until an undetermined time within their eighth year of life, a tiny ynit has the opportunity...since it is pure energy...to inherit super-powers. They can range from strength, speed, agility, hyper-awareness, and the ability to bond with other creatures...to name a few. Tiny ynit’s may gain one or several of these abilities. When a ynit and tiny ynit turn nine years of age...their immediate connection breaks. Most ynit’s start to forget as the years roll on and they become engrossed in the natural course of their lives. Occasionally, ynit’s will feel their connection to the energy realm, however, their focus becomes the physical.

From the age of nine until the death of a ynit, the energy of their decisions fuels and builds a place called the “Simultaneous Universe Reality Frequency” or SURF. From this point on, every energy burst made from a ynit or human goes to the SURF and manifests itself into different forms, varying from beasts, creatures, plants, mountains, or really anything one’s imagination can conjure. The manifestation is essentially based upon the intensity and emotion resulting from that specific decision. Whether it was low or high...good or bad...the materialization will be appropriate to its origination.

The SURF is important because it is like a storage house for all the energy which has ever existed and will ever exist. The Simultaneous Universe Reality Frequency and earth essentially act like an osmosis of fusion which powers and drives our very existence. Without it, our purpose would be confused...even life itself would have no reason to perpetuate. After the age of nine, the mission of a tiny ynit is to help, guide, and protect the ynits. If they are doing their job, then a ynit will be more likely to make better decisions. This is important because the SURF relies on balance...good and evil...yin and yang. There will always be ynits making good decisions and bad decisions...a tiny ynit tries to make certain the SURF has an over-abundance of positive or good energy.

Back to the situation at hand...Sam sensed something about the man in the suit, which he didn’t quite completely understand. All he knew...was the importance of helping him. Being shaken back to a sense of reality, the man started to tear up and hug the bus driver as he was overcome with emotion. A sensational thing started to happen as men and women’s hearts were filled with gratitude and grace. Sam could feel their energy shift and change. He could sense them thinking about their own families, loved ones and the preciousness of life. Many of the ynits who gathered around had a renewed or invigorated appreciation for each other.

A little girl tugged on the man’s suit and with tears streaming down his face, she handed him his cell phone.

“Here you go mister,” she said with a tiny lisp.

“Thank you,” he bent down to her eye level as he gently retrieved the phone. Standing up again he responded to the crowd, “Thank you for your help...I’m ok...thank you, everyone!”

“Do you need any assistance to the hospital?” asked the bus driver. "I'm on the line with the 911 operator!"

“No...no thank you,” he responded. “You can call them off...I’m actually on my way there now and I’ll get checked out a bit later...it’s only a few blocks away. Besides, you didn’t even hit me...it must have been the wind that knocked me back.”

The driver embraced the man as he was grateful there was no fatality or injury. Sam smiled from the ground as he looked up at everyone. The crowd began to disperse as the man in the suit made his way to Hennepin County Medical Center (https://www.hennepinhealthcare.org/). He wanted to follow him...making sure he was going to be alright...besides...his other mission could wait for now. The cell phone was damaged as the man tried to bring it back to life. Before entering the hospital, he walked towards an alley, which was abandoned at the moment. Putting the phone back into his pocket, he covered his face with his hands and started weeping uncontrollably. Sam walked next to his leg and hugged him. Although the man couldn’t see him, it became apparent he could feel something as he started to compose himself after a moment.

After fixing his hair and wiping several tears away, he made his way into the building. Before catching the elevator, he made a quick stop in the gift shop.

“Good afternoon Gary,” an elderly woman waved from behind the counter. “How are you today?”

Gary chuckled as he grabbed a Twix (https://marschocolate.com/twix) bar from the candy section, “Well...Betty...let’s just say it has been a pretty intense day!”

Sam hopped onto the counter and sat next to Betty as he watched Gary, the man in the suit, reach for his wallet.

“Geepers...I bet...I mean, the life of a defense attorney is probably stressful enough,” she smiled lovingly at him, “...not to mention what you and your family are going through…I truly wish you the best.”

“Thank you, Betty,” Gary handed her a five dollar bill.

“Here’s your change,” she handed him three dollars and 75 cents, which he promptly slid into the donation jar. “Thank you, Gary...you’re always so generous.”

“You’re welcome Betty,” he responded with his own smile. “It’s always good to see you.”

“You too,” she replied with a wave as he rapidly exited the gift shop.

Sam was so caught up in the moment, he had to quickly hop off the counter and run to catch Gary. Things were slowly being revealed to him as he became more aware of why he felt the desire to help this particular person. With squeaky footsteps along the newly polished floor, he made his way to one of the many hospital rooms. The light was off as he quietly opened the door. Sam slipped in with Gary as he saw another man resting in the bed.

“Hey...John..are you awake?” he whispered in the dark.

“Yes...I am...you can turn on the light,” replied a weak voice.

“Don’t get up…” Gary instructed, “keep resting...I’ll get the light.”

As the room illuminated, Sam noticed a much younger person lying down. He didn’t have any hair and was having trouble breathing. The gray hospital gown with blue dots loosely covered his frail body.

“I got us something…” Gary grabbed the Twix from his pocket and dangled it in the air.

John...the man in the bed...tried to chuckle, but only mustered a labored cough. Sam jumped to the window sill where he sat down and watched the two men.

“Can you...save my half...for later?” he slowly asked.

“You got it, little brother,” he responded while ripping open the golden colored package. Gary set one bar on a napkin at the edge of the table tray. Reaching into a small closet behind the chair, he grabbed a gallon ziplock bag. Taking the other bar, he struggled to shove it in and reclose the bag. With a nervous smile, he looked at John and said, “Don’t worry...you’ll catch up soon!”

“It’ll be a Twix buffet,” John grinned back and gave his older brother a thumbs-up.

“Hey...it’s Monday and Minnesota plays Green Bay,” Gary grabbed the remote and sat down, “...you up for a little skol Vikes tonight!” (https://www.vikings.com/) (https://www.packers.com/) (http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/page/MNFHQ/monday-night-football-hq-nfl)

“I could use that,” John’s eyes brightened as he tried to sit up in bed. “How did the conversation go with the insurance company?”

“I’ll tell ya what…” Gary grabbed the cell phone from his pocket as he plugged it in to charge; It hadn’t worked since the incident, so he was hoping a charge would revitalize it, “...let’s watch the game first and talk about that after.”

“That bad huh…” John knew the news probably wasn’t good, “...maybe you’re right...let’s just enjoy the game then!”

“Hey...don’t worry...we’ll find a way to pay for all of your treatments,” he grabbed his younger brothers hand, “...I promise!”

“Oh Gary…” a tear fell from John’s eye, “...what would I do without you...you’re the best older brother a guy could have!”

“I love you!” Gary tightened his grip on John’s hand.

“I love you too!” he barely got out before going into a coughing fit.

Sam jumped from the window sill and made his way between John and Gary. Finding a comfortable spot he decided to stay and watch the game with them. The broadcast announcers for the game energized the room with their voices just as Gary’s phone lit up. Pulling the phone to the side he angled it away from John. Making sure the ringer was off, he grabbed the Twix bar and wrapped it in the napkin.

“I’ll save mine for later too,” Gary said to John; however, the feeble sibling had fallen back asleep. Trying to be as quiet as possible he grabbed a separate gallon ziplock bag, which he had hidden in the closet and struggled to find room and reclose it.

Sam smiled at the tender moment just as Gary’s phone completely turned back on. Glancing down, he saw that there were several missed calls from the same number. It must have been from the person he was in a heated conversation with earlier. Just before he cleared the phone screen, the diligent tiny ynit saw the name on the screen. His heart sank as he noticed the caller was a personal loan officer from the bank.
